Vegan ResourcesGood Health is Key to Happiness and ProductivityIt is hard to relax, be happy, and focus on your life goals while you are distracted by feeling bad. In 1994, we were in our 30's and struggling with weight control as well as the myriad digestive issues that result from the classic American diet. We decided to do something about it, starting with some research reading. The turning point was when we read a book called Fit for Life by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. The book actually isn't about being a vegetarian at all, let alone taking the drastic step of becoming vegan. It's about how to eat foods in the right combinations to lose weight. Concepts like "food combining" and "natural hygiene" were not new, but it was a new idea to us. After reading the book, we realized that applying the concepts of food combining would be a lot easier if we eliminated dairy and meat from our diet. We decided to give a vegan diet and food combining a try for one week. We felt so much better that the week-long experiment continues to this day. Learning to Cook VeganWhen we became vegan, virtually all pre-packaged "convenience foods" became a thing of the past. We were never averse to cooking, but suddenly we had to really get creative in the kitchen. We learned how to make interesting and tasty meals from vegan ingredients. We also learned how to convert traditional recipes to vegan equivalents through experimentation. Over time, we built up a big pile of worn and kitchen-stained recipes that represented our own path to vegan success. We built up a large library of cookbooks too, but none of them seemed to offer what we needed most of the time: fast, easy recipes that got food on the table when we were in a hurry. Sharing What We Learned OnlineIn 2001, we created a Web content management tool called the Logical Web Publisher, which we still use to this day. It's claim to fame is that it lets you easily maintain an online periodical. We were so excited to have a way to share our knowledge with the world (this is way before blogs were popular) that we used the LWP to create several Web sites relating to our interests. One of those sites was Many Veggie Recipes, which we used to share some of the vegan recipes we had developed. Many Veggie Recipes still gets regular traffic and we still add content to it periodically. If you are interested in free vegan recipes and cooking tips, take a look at the site.
The Birth of a CookbookIn 2006, we decided that information products were the future of Logical Expressions, and one of the ways to make that happen was to learn how to self-publish our own books. As they say, write about what you know, so it isn't a surprise that our first effort was a vegan cookbook. Hey, we already had the recipes and an idea for a format that would not duplicate the many other cookbooks on the market at the time. After a lot of editing, formatting, and indexing work, Vegan Success: Scrumptious, Healthy, Vegan Recipes for Busy People was born. We are proud to say that our cookbook has been steadily increasing in sales, and many readers have given us positive feedback on how it has helped them work vegan cooking into their busy lives. |
